Popular Telugu anchor and actress Rashmi Gautam was involved in a road accident when her car hit a pedestrian in Vizag on Sunday night. Soon, news started emerging with regards to the carelessness of her driver. However, the actress gave an interview clearing her stance and also claiming that she was with the man who was a truck driver, named Sayyed Abdul, till his condition was stable.
Apparently Rashmi was in a car with a driver and was returning to her house in Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam after shooting for a web series. The accident happened at Angnampudi Highway, almost 20 minutes away from the destination.
The injured woman was immediately shifted to Angnampudi Government Hospital before being shifted to a private hospital soon. A case has been filed at the local police station against the driver MA Gautham who has been taken into police custody after even Rashmi escaped with minor injuries.
Even as all blame was being put on Rashmi with regards to the accident, in an interview with a leading publication, she cleared the air saying that she immediately took responsibility and jumped into action despite no one coming out to help them at the moment.
The actress revealed that people at the spot started taking photos and video soon after they saw her, and apparently paid no heed to her request to help with the location to guide the ambulance she had called in for.
In the same interview, she said that neither her nor her driver are to be blamed. “Why should I be silent when I’m not at fault? What happened was really unfortunate and we took complete responsibility and did what we must. In fact, who should be blamed here? The man who was lazy enough to take a foot over the bridge but crossed the highway or the local authority that did not check on the functionality of the lights on the highway,” she is reported to have said in the interview.
