Media reports suggest that names like Shabana Azmi, Dimple Kapadia and Supriya Pathak were previously considered for the role but, Tanvi has been cast to avoid the instant play of getting Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Supriya Pathak to share the same screen space after Gopiyon ki Raaseela Ram Leela.

It is also learnt that Tanvi had to go through a compatibility test with Ranveer Singh, playing the lead role of Peshwa Bajirao, to see if the duo can pull off the on-screen relation of a son and mother. The actress will be seen in a strong dominating character as Bajirao's mother.

Directed and produced by Bhansali, Bajirao Mastani will feature Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles and is slated to hit the silver screen on Christmas this year.
