Neha Bhasin’s latest song release was Chashni from the upcoming Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani starrer Bharat. But, on her independent music front, she recently came up with Meri Odhe Naal, which was a dancey ditty.

Known for her interpretations of Punjabi folk songs, which she releases as her independent singles regularly, she ealrier dropped Belihaziya, which was experimental and in the electro-pop space. When asked why she hasn’t done anything in this genre ever since, Neha explains, “I’m a little scared to do electro-pop because it seems like Indians are not ready for it. I want to do it and personally love funk and electro-pop as a music producer, but I think people here are stuck up with sounds. Though we feel like we are moving ahead, we are doing what has already been done in the world.” As an example, she points out that everyone is obsessed with reggaeton at this point. “I may do it at some point but it’s not on my mind as of now,” she tells us.

Though the Heeriye (Race 3) crooner mostly sings folk in her mother tongue, Punjabi, what about rendering traditional tunes in other lingos? “I’m not sure about other languages on my own channel but if I get to do Tamil or Telugu some day, then I would — though originals and not folk,” she says, adding that it’s because she has an audience in the south market as well, since she has sung tracks such as Apple Beauty (Janatha Garage) in Telugu and Kaadhal Endhan Kaadhal (Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal) in Tamil among many others.
