While Sridevi made a successful comeback with English Vinglish, Aishwarya Rai Bahchan and Kajol are next in the line to return to the big screen. While Ash has started shooting for Sanjay Gupta's Jazbaa, Kajol will return as the lead in the remake of the South movie How Old Are You? The movie is about a woman's journey to find herself after trying hard to match the expectations of her family -- which takes her for granted. Feel like you have heard the story? That's probably because it does sound very similar to English Vinglish. Here's what Sridevi's and Kajol's comeback ventures have in common.WE ARE BACKKajol's last movie We Are Family, which was a remake of the Hollywood movie Stepmom, released in 2010. Sridevi returned in English Vinglish (2012) after a 12 year long break. Her movie Judaai released in 1997, after which the actress decided to focus on her family. Kajol returned to Bollywood after taking a break with Fanaa after she had her daughter Nysa, she then took a break post 2010, when she had her son Yug. Sridevi and Kajol, who both have two kids now, have picked up projects where they play their age.STORY TIMEHow Old Are You? is about Nirupama Rajeev, who is an upper division clerk in the revenue department. Nirupama has always struggled to fulfil the expectations of her husband and daughter. Her life comes to a standstill when she becomes a stumbling block in her husband's dream of migrating to Ireland. He leaves her behind and takes their teenaged daughter with him. Things become worse when an incident leads to Nirupama becoming the subject of ridicule among her friends, colleagues and even on the internet. The rest of the film is devoted to the resurrection of Nirupama. She becomes famous for the organic vegetable garden that she has grown on her terrace and inspires others to do the same. In English Vinglish, Shashi Godbole (Sridevi) is a housewife who makes and sells laddoos. Her husband and daughter take her for granted, and mock her poor English skills. They often treat her with disrespect and make her insecure. She finds solace in the company of her young son and mother-in-law. During her trip to New York for her niece's wedding, she decides to join a spoken-English class, which results in a major transformation in her.TAKING DIRECTIONSSridevi collaborated with debutant director Gauri Shinde during English Vinglish. Similarly, though Ajay Devgn has worked with Ashwani Dheer in Atithi in Tum Kab Jaoge? this will be Kajol's first movie with the director. Kajol, who has always said that it's important for her to be comfortable with the team that she is working with, will be stepping into a new zone with this movie.MOM'S THE WORDBoth, Sridevi and Kajol, play married women with teenage daughters who don't appreciate their mothers and are resentful. Their husbands expect their wives to be at their back-and-call and aren't appreciative of them. While Sridevi excelled in her role, Kajol too is bound to shine in the meaty role.SMALL-TIME ENTERPRENEURSIn English Vinglish, Sridevi runs her laddoo business from her home, while Kajol's character grows organic vegetables in her terrace garden. The two ladies find great pride in their ventures and are absolutely dedicated in making them a success.MAKING A POINTSince Sridevi's character wants to find acceptance among her family members she decided to lean English, while Kajol's character finds the ambition that she has left behind trying to look after her family. In the climax of English Vinglish, Sridevi delivers a speech in English surprising her husband and daughter.Another comeback storySouth actor Manju Warrier, who played protagonist Nirupama Rajeev in How Old Are You? made her comeback after a 15-year hiatus.
