Nigam wrote on Twitter questioning why women had to follow different rules when people were willing to give male sadhus more leeway and benefit of doubt. The 'godwoman' has been accused of dowry harassment, abetting suicide and encouraging superstition. Complaints have been filed in each case.

Radhe Maa stirred controversy when pictures of her wearing a mini-skirt and videos of her dancing to Bollywood numbers surfaced online. The photos went viral and invited both outrage and ridicule on social media.

In a complaint lodged with Kandivali police earlier this month, a 32-year-old woman has accused the self-styled spiritual leader of instigating her in-laws, who are her followers, to demand dowry from her. The complainant alleged that she had been physically and mentally harassed by her in-laws for dowry at the behest of Radhe Maa.

A separate complaint has also been filed alleging her involvement in promoting superstition. Radhe Maa has also been accused of instigating four people to commit suicide.
