Snigdha Srivastava undergoes silent training

In an industry obsessed with kitchen politics, TV hardly does something which goes for research. And when it did, the actor did have a tough time. Snigdha Srivastava will vouch for that.

The actor who plays the role of a mute girl in Kinnari and Jay Mehta’s show Shorr had a grueling one and a half month’s practice and workshop to prepare for her role. She was taught by Vikas Kadam who also taught Tusshar Kapoor for his role in Golmaal.

Producer Kinnari Mehta says, “I have worked with Snigdha earlier and still I repeated her in this show because I know she is a potent actress. To make the character look convincing, she was trained for one and a half months. She was on complete maun brat for a week to prepare for the role.”

She further adds, “If a show is focused on a mute girl and it’s a daily show, the character has to be convincing. Otherwise it will very easily go for a toss. That’s the reason we wanted to go through this intensive training to make it look authentic.”
Snigdha too echoes the difficulty in preparing for the role. “I speak in a base voice and my pitch was required to be a little high to enact the character accordingly. Moreover my movements and gestures were not very sharp. So to synchronize both, I had to really work hard,” she says.

In fact while she was undergoing training, she was communicating with her family and friends in sign language. “I applied it in my daily life. My family used to get irritated since they couldn’t comprehend my gestures. In fact, while going out too I used to speak in sign language which left many people confused.

But at the end of the day, it helped me overcome the challenges of my role,” Singdha adds.
