Singer Daler Mehndi convicted in 2003 human trafficking case, gets bail
Reportedly, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher had illegally "dropped off" 10 persons in the US
Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi has been convicted in a 2003 human trafficking case by Patiala Court.
As per a report by Republic TV, Daler and his brother, Shamsher Singh, had illegally sent people abroad by disguising them as members of his troupe. In return, they charged a hefty "passage money." The report further suggested that the Mehndi brothers had taken two troupes in 1998 and 1999 to the US and illegally "dropped off" 10 persons there.
Daler and his brother were accused by a man identified as Jaswinder Singh. According to Singh's complaint, Daler Mehndi, his brother Shamsher and others had taken money from them to the tune of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of taking them abroad. The complainants, however, alleged that the deal never matured and the accused even failed to return the money.
Meanwhile, as per ANI, Daler Mehndi is presently in Patiala Court's custody. While earlier reports suggested that he was sentenced to 2-years in prison, it is now learnt that he has been granted bail by Patiala Court.
