The new journey of the network's popular franchise will start with the 19-year-old singer's performance on September 8, reported Variety.

Mendes said he was excited to be a part of the 2.0 version of "Unplugged" as he believed his fans would now get a chance to watch his performance again on the small screen.

"People come to my shows not really knowing what to expect, and they leave experiencing a real rock-pop concert.

We're playing 100 per cent of the time. To be able to film that and put it out to the people is exciting," he said.

The "Nothing Holdin' Me Back" singer recalled watching a clip of Pearl Jam performing on the show in 1992 and said it was the gig that got him hooked on the concept.

"It wasn't so much about the commercial, showman side of it; It was really about the music," he added.
