With a string of novelty attached, the film received mixed reactions from the critics and the audience at large and could not open as big as expected. The film could only manage a very low opening day collection, most of which came from the South Indian circuit. Dhanush, being a superstar down South brought in the hugest revenues from the South market.

Possibly, there will be a little rise in the film's collections over the weekend and a opening weekend collection of around Rs 12-13 crore can be expected now. But overall, the response will still be lukewarm and lesser than what Shamitabh was expected to get.
