The actress is back on the small screen, this time as a devil’s angel.
After a hiatus of two years, during which she was busy working on her fashion label, actor Shama Sikander is back on television in an all new avatar as she plays an angel to the devil. Titled Baal Veer, the show will be aired on SAB TV next month onwards. “I am extremely excited about this,” says an elated Shama as she talks about returning to the small-screen. “It’s been almsot two years but you know how it is... once an actor always an actor. So I had to come back to acting (smiles).”
Best remembered for the show Yeh Meri Life Hai where she had played the plain girl-next-door Pooja, Shama just got back after doing a fashion show in South Africa. “I really needed to take some time off to work on my fashion label.. but now that my team is handling it well, I think I can comfortably get back to acting,” she says. A fantasy fiction show, Baal Veer has Shama playing a fairy and sharing the screen space with actor Karishma Tanna. “I am the queen fairy actually,” she grins. Ask her how was it playing the character and she replies, “Oh it is going to be a fun watch! This is something I had never done before. My costumes in the show are so grand and gorgeous... The whole look is extravagant.. right from the dresses to the make-up to the shoes! I was surprised that these guys had put aside such a huge budget for just the outfits.”
So is it a kiddie show? “Absolutely not!,” asserts Shama. “It’s got something for everyone. It’s not like the typical goody goody fairy tales... and I am the sexy angel here (laughs).” Shama reveals that since it was going to be her comeback show, she wanted to explore a completely different role, something that she hadn’t done before. And that is how the show happened. And there was more than one reason for her to be lured into doing the show. “I love kids and I love angels,” exclaims Shama who totally enjoys being in the company of kids. “I’ve always been fond of kids and these days the tots are so prim and proper that shooting with them isn’t much of a hassle at all,” she continues. “When I was a kid, I used to dream of angels. And this show lets me actually play the angel. Of course I did not dream of the evil angel that I am portraying here (laughs), but it is fun still.”
