Tech giant Apple is reportedly going to rope in Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador for India to intensify the company's profile in the country.

According to PC Tablet, the announcement will be made when Apple launches new iPhones in India later this year. 

Apple CEO was on a trip to India last month where he met the honchos of the film industry and Tim Cook had attended a dinner party hosted by King Khan.

A has a number of such "ambassadors" elsewhere, such as Brazilian-born soccer player Neymar, or NBA player Steph Curry in the US. These people are used to market Apple products, attracting attention through their celebrity.

On his maiden visit to India, Tim Cook had discussed the company’s focus on new growth markets like India and others. He even expressed that it was exactly the right time" to be in India.

"Journey starts with the first step. We are not here for a year or few years, we are here for a long time, 100s of years. And we are a long term company. The thing that we make the most focus is iPhone. It's a key part," Cook told NDTV.
