Salman on a Marathi show

Salman Khan may not go on Kapil Sharma’s show, but he will be appearing on the popular Marathi chat show Chala Hawa Yeu Dya! Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan had gone on the show to promote Fan, while Salman, who shot for an episode recently, will be promoting his upcoming film Sultan. Interestingly, besides Sultan, there is a lot of Sairat on the show! Says Nittin Keni, Creative Director, Zee Network, “Salman went gaga over the film and even danced to the chartbuster Zingat.” Did Salman manage to speak in Marathi? “He knows all the words, but he is hesitant to speak because grammatically he goes a little wrong. However, he did say, ‘Haat bhaari, laat bhaari, saglach lai bhaari’.’ (Salman had done a cameo in the Marathi film Lai Bhaari). Since Sultan has him playing a wrestler, real-life wrestlers from Maharashtra Kesari and Hind Kesari are also part of the episode,” reveals Nittin.

Incidentally, of late, several Hindi actors are going on the Marathi show to promote their films. Besides SRK and Salman, John Abraham had gone to promote Rocky Handsome. Even Vidya Balan went on the show, albeit, to promote her Marathi film Ekk Albela. Ask Nittin what is prompting Hindi actors to go on the show and he says, “In Maharashtra Chala Hawa Yeu Dya is bigger than Kapil Sharma’s show. In fact, it is the number one show in Maharashtra, which is the biggest territory for films in the country. Everyone has seen the kind of business Sairat did in the State. And since Chala Hawa Yeu Dya is the highest rated show, Hindi actors are drifting towards it.

Salman wanted to make Sairat in Hindi

That the biggest Marathi hit Sairat — it made Rs50 crores at the box-office — is being remade in all the South languages is known. The latest is, it will be remade in Punjabi too. Also, Salman Khan had evinced an interest in making it in Hindi, but right now, the producers are not too keen on it. Says Nittin, “We haven’t decided yet. It will be difficult to make it in Hindi because these kind of stories have already been made (in Bollywood). Also, it would mean completely wiping out the nuances that are specific to a region. From north to south, east to west, the nuances get lost. Hindi is not the appropriate language for the film. It will become a bland Romeo-Juliet story. Salman had at one point discussed about making a Hindi remake, but we decided unless we get a great script, we should not do it.”
