Undoubtedly, films today are mainly about sleek packaging and intelligent marketing but old timers still prefer giving equal weightage to the content. So, when journalist-cum-brand man Rahul Mittra decided to produce his first film, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, he was taking baby, yet confident, steps.

“I wanted my first film to be interesting yet, pathbreaking and Saheb... is what I’d call a twisted drama mainly bordering on the politics of relationship or even sex,” Rahul informs. But why choose a title with a striking similarity to a classic? “Saheb, Biwi Aur Ghulam was a great drama and it also had three central characters entwined together. I wanted the title of my film to have some recall value to this masterpiece,” he explains.

Saheb... stars Mahie Gill, Randeep Hooda and Jimmy Shergill, and Rahul feels that they have all justified their parts perfectly. “In a way, the film is about the rise of the woman power and Mahie, who’s a very talented actor and deserves more than the kind of work she’s currently doing, has justified her role. Randeep and Jimmy are very talented and upbeat actors too,” he states.

Anything sensational draws eyeballs first and the lovemaking scene between Mahie and Randeep too is one such. Quiz Rahul on the same and he says, “Why talk about just one part of the film? Saheb... also has songs, twists and turns, extreme physical chemistry and love, lust and betrayal are lurking in the corners. Of course, director Timangshu Dhulia has used a lot of sensitivity during the filming.” But at the same time, he feels that even though the audience is accepting bold content, that doesn’t mean they can be given anything illogical. “It’s nice to show the woman being in control and on top, but that has to be done intelligently. If Murder 2 is boldness, I think it was sheer disappointment,” he adds. Moreover, Rahul feels that the time is just right for Saheb...

“The audience and industry has warmed up to a lot of Indian heartland films now. Moreover, I feel there are just two sorts of films — the good and the bad and I know we have a good film in hand,” he signs off.
