Rumours suggest that the new series will not be in the same timeline as the rebooted movie franchise. Meanwhile, the movie franchise is all set to release the third movie in the series Star Trek Beyond on July 22.

Here is the synopsis of the revived show -

"The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilisations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966."
