Aye Mere Watan ke Logo

Running for over five decades, 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo', sung by the 'Nightingale of India' Lata Mangeshkar, is the most remarkable patriotic song ever. The song is a tribute to the soldiers who saved India from its woes. Since the time it was made, this song is an anthem to mark India's Independence Day and Republic Day as well.

Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge

Saluting the spirit of patriotism, this song remains one of the most famous desh-bhakti geet of all time from blockbuster Karma (1986)'. The lyrics of the song, which talk about sacrifice for country, convey a strong message to the Indians.

Saare Jahan Se Acha

Mostly sung during the prayer session in schools, 'Saare Jahan Se Acha' 'from the 1972 Bollywood-drama Yeh Gulshan Humara is India's most sung song all these years. The song evokes the feeling of being a proud Indian, who loves his/her country but doesn't say it often.

Insaaf Ki Dagar Pe

This old patriotic offering from 1961 drama Ganga Jamuna is surely a never-heard-before for many youngsters. But this particular song must be included in the playlist when you celebrate the patriotic vigour. The song intends to spread a inspirational message of patriotism to the future generations of independent India.

Sabarmati Ke Sant

This again is a less-listened-to song, but a hit on the theme of independence. The song is an ode to Father of the Nation -- Mahatama Gandhi -- who fought against the Britishers without any weapon but 'Ahimsa'.

Aye Watan Humko Teri kasam

Sung by the legend Mohammed Rafi, this song has been a super-hit track for decades; perfect to dedicate to the nation. From the movie Shaheed (1965), 'Aye Watan Aye Watan' is sung by freedom fighters who sacrifice their lives for India.

Aye Mere Pyaare Watan

The heart-wrenching tune of the emotional song, sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the 1961 film Kabuliwala, makes your heart brim with feelings for India. The song describes the trials India faced when it was under British rule.

Hai Preet Jaha Ki Reet Sada

In Purab Aur Paschim (1971), searching 'apnanpan' like in 'India', Dilip Kumar visits a club abroad. Praising the innate qualities that our country possesses, he sings 'Hai Preet Jahan ki Reet Sada'.

Mera Rang De Basanti Chola

From blockbuster Shaheed (1965), 'Mera Rang De Basanti Chola' is a musical patriotic song sung by Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor and Rajendra. The hit-track from the yesteryear has been reused in Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) and as a movie title also, Rang De Basanti (2006). It won't be astonishing if we hear it again in another patriotic movie.

Apni Azadi Ko

From Leader (1965), this heart-rendering song was sung by Mohammed Rafi. It gives a symbolic message to Indians about the struggle to free India from British colonial rule.

Mere Desh Ki Dharti

When Manoj Kumar sang 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' in Upkaar (1967), not just farmers, but the entire nation hummed the tune of this chirpy number which talks about the fertile Indian agricultural land. Such a delight to hear!
