The movie, which chronicles the life of a gay model, was scheduled to hit theatres this Friday. The censor board has cleared the film with an ‘A’ certificate.

“It was a peaceful protest, but we deployed policemen outside Sharma’s building as a precautionary measure,” senior inspector of Khar police station, Mangesh Pote, told DNA.

The activists shouted slogans and demanded that the film should not be released as “homosexuality is against Indian culture”. Last week, the makers had received anonymous hate mail warning them of dire consequences if they screened their film.

Shaken by both the incidents and worried about future backlash, the makers decided to play it safe and release the movie in the Diwali week. “We are open to peaceful dialogue with the protesters. We are even willing to screen the film for anyone who has any objections to its content,” said Sharma’s brother, actor Kapil Sharma, who plays the protagonist in the film.

The Sharmas are even contemplating asking police for security outside cinema halls in the city once the film is released. “We are not into sensationalism and have portrayed a homosexual relationship in a sensitive and realistic manner,” Sharma added. Two big releases, Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy, are also scheduled to hit cinema halls around the same time as Dunno Y…

However, the Sharmas are confident that they will not eat into the profits of their film, because its genre and the target audience are different from those of the other two films, which are comedies.
