After making a name for himself in theatre for his innovative productions, Rajendra Karanth is now ready to don the director’s hat, this time for a film. For his debut venture the director has roped in his college mate and actor Ramesh Aravind.
“Actually Ramesh was supposed to direct the film but he suggested that I do it instead, as he is too busy at this point to both act in and direct the film. He first made me play the role of a villain in one of his films, he also gave me opportunities to write dialogues and now, he has helped me turn into a film director,” says Karanth.
While film direction may be new to him, he has been an active part of the film and media industries. He has written dialogues for over 15 hit films and even pens a popular column for a Kannada daily.
“He is a very creative person and direction is something he has been planning to do for sometime now. This film promises to be a complete entertainer and I feel he will do justice to the script,” enthuses Ramesh.
The actor adds that he is really looking forward to doing this film as his character is very unlike the real him. “This guy is a big time tension party. He’s like a tension raaja. It’s almost like he is waiting to get tense about everything and anything. It’s a highly performance oriented role,” he says.
The team is planning to call the film Rasagulla. “The film will throw light on the functioning of the film industry. It’s out to say how both the producer and director are equally important for a film to work. It also observes how sometimes it is necessary to ignore small issues to lead a happy life,” chips in Karanth while giving us a fair idea about the film.
As for the leading ladies, there are four of them. Harshika Poonacha, Rishika Singh, Sanatani and Madhuri have been approached to play the parts as of now. Is it also true that Tamil superstar Kamal Hassan will be playing a cameo in the film?
“This is nothing but a rumour,” say both the actor and director rubbishing the claim. Rasagulla is expected to go on floors in the first week of October.
