Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi fantasy thriller, '2.0' (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu) has crossed the coveted Rs 500 crore mark at the worldwide box office within just 7 days of its release.

Karan Johar, who is presenting the Hindi version of the film, shared the news on Twitter. He wrote, ''A box office PHENOMENA!!!! 500 crores worldwide!!!!! We at @DharmaMovies are so proud to be associated with the HINDI version of this movie marvel!!!!"

In Hindi alone, '2.0' has bagged over Rs 132 crore and is by far the eighth biggest hit of 2018.

A sequel to the 2010 blockbuster 'Enthiran', '2.0' has also become the second highest grossing Hindi dubbed film, surpassing the lifetime business of 'Baahubali: The Beginning'. Prabhas' 2015 film had made Rs 117 crore at the box office. Last year that record was beaten by its sequel 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion', which made Rs 511 crore.

Shankar's film is also the highest grossing Hindi film of Rajinikanth's career. According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, '2.0' is also going to be Akshay Kumar’s biggest hit film ever.

Lyca Productions have also tied up with a Chinese film distributor to release a dubbed version of the Shankar-directed film in 10,000 screens in China in May next year.

Touted to be one of the most expensive films ever made in India, 2.0 was reportedly made at a budget of Rs 550 crore out of which about Rs 370 crore was recovered by selling satellite, digital and distribution rights before the release on November 29, as per a report in LiveMint.
