Tamil superstar Rajinikanth underwent haemodialysis and ultrafiltration on Thursday at the Sri Ramachandra Medical  Centre  in Chennai. "This was done to remove excess water accumulated in his body following infection," Dr CV Krishnaswamy, Rajinikanth's personal physician, told DNA.Dr Krishnaswamy said the actor was in perfect health  and there was no cause of concern. "He is perfectly all right. There was slight elevation in the actor's kidney parameters. Water retention of the body was more. Hence the dialysis and filtration," he said. The doctor rubbished reports appearing in a section of the media about his health condition. "He is having fatigue and needs complete bed rest for 10 days. Visitors and friends should not be allowed at this juncture since he needs total rest," said Dr Krishnaswamy.Latha, Rajinikanth's wife, told reporters that doctors felt the actor needed a sterile area. "Only the ICU atmosphere can give him protection from any kind of infection. He is a human being and does not have any supernatural powers," said Latha. Dr S Thanikachalam, who is monitoring Rajinikanth, said that the actor was hale and hearty.Rajinikanth was admitted to St Isabel Hospital in the city on April 29 when he complained of fatigue but was discharged on the same day. On May 4 he was admitted to the same hospital following breathlessness. He was discharged on May 10 and was advised complete rest. But on May 14 he was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre with bronchitis and viral fever. A section of the media reported that Rajanikanth was suffering from some serious ailment. But the doctors denied all such reports. “This is the price one has to pay for being a celebrity. Do not believe unconfirmed reports," said Dr Krishnaswamy.Another physician said the media hype could be due to his current film Rana, in which the superstar has Deepika Padukone as co-star. The project is expected to cost  Rs200  crore. Elsewhere in the state, fans of Rajinikanth are offering special poojas and prayers in various temples. Tuesday saw fans taking Mann Soru (eating cooked rice spread out on floor) at Kalikamba Temple in Hosur for the speedy recovery of the actor.
