Superstar Rajinikanth has been making waves with his latest film Kabali. But there was a documentary on him that came out last year that is now making news in India. Joyojeet Pal, a professor at the University of Michigan, and Rinku Kalsy, a filmmaker in Amsterdam, came together to make a documentary on him titled For The Love of A Man. This documentary is all about Rajinikanth and the phenomenon that he is today.

When Joyojeet Pal was asked why they chose Rajini over other Indian stars, he said, "Because Rajinikanth is probably the biggest of all, not only in terms of mass appeal, but also because of how he spans generations. There are fans who are in their 60s who have watched Rajini from his Avargal days and there are fans who are barely past their teens."

For The Love Of A Man is in Tamil and the duo stated that it was the first time a Tamil-language documentary had been selected for a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2015. "We are very hopeful that this ends up being an important moment for regional-language documentary cinema in India," added Joyojeet.

Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival played the documentary but many people have not seen it as it has not been screened in the south. Hopefully the makers will be able to show it in Tamil Nadu.

The official website for the documentary is http://www.fortheloveofaman.com/
