Aamir Khan may take time off from making an apperance at the box office this year, but movie lovers will have Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn making multiple box office outings. Among the ladies, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Kangana Ranaut all have movies that will create a lot of buzz at the box-office. The younger brigade takes a step ahead to cement their position in B-Town. Here’s what we think you should look forward to.

January 13 Ok Jaanu

Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Leela Samson and Naseeruddin ShahDirector: Shaad AliWhat’s it about: The official remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film O Kadhal Kanmani, which starred Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen, will see Shaad returning to direction after a three year gap. Aditya and Shraddha reunite on screen after their blockbuster Aashiqui 2 (2013). On the other hand, Shaad’s last two movies — Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Kill Dil — failed at the box office. But the director had also helmed Saathiya, which was a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey, which was loved by the janta. This one will see Aditya and Shraddha portraying a young couple in a live-in relationship, while Naseer and Leela play an older couple and landlords to the couple in supporting roles. The title track and the reprised Humma Humma are already a hit with the audiences. AR Rahman has scored the film and soundtrack.

A Death in the Gunj

Cast: Vikrant Massey, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin and Tillotama ShomeDirector: Konkona SensharmaWhat’s it about: The movie is set in the colonial town of McCluskieganj in the winters of 1979. What starts as an uneventful family holiday takes a twist when the guests start playing with the spirits. It is nothing tangible but insinuates its way into the group until the holiday ends in an implosion, resulting in an unavoidable event. The movie has already got acclaim at international film festivals and it will be interesting to see the talented Konkona get behind the cameras.

January 25Raees 

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin SiddiquiDirector: Rahul DholakiaWhat’s it about: Set in the ’80s, it shows the story of a bootlegger Raees (SRK) whose business is constantly thwarted by a tough cop Ghulam Patel (Siddiqui). Mahira Khan plays SRK’s love interest. The movie was to clash with Sultan last year. However, the makers shifted the date. However, a clash could not be avoided this time around as Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil releases on the same date. The movie will release on January 25, a Wednesday, to make the most of the Republic Day weekend.

Kaabil

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy and Rohit RoyDirector: Sanjay GuptaWhat’s it about: Hrithik plays a visually impaired man out to take revenge for the wrongs done to his wife Yami. Brothers Ronit and Rohit Roy pair up on the big screen for the first time to play baddies. The movie will be a big test for Hrithik whose Mohenjo Daro didn’t work.

February 10Jolly LLB 2

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi and Annu KapoorDirector: Subhash KapoorWhat’s it about: The prequel starred Arshad Warsi, this upgraded sequel will see Akshay playing a not-so-successful lawyer who locks horns with Kapoor, who is an established legal eagle.

February 23 Rangoon

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid KapoorDirector: Vishal BhardwajWhat’s it about: This is an imminent romance drama set against a war backdrop. Rangoon marks Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishal Bhardwaj’s first collaboration.

March 10 Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Cast: Varun Dhawan and Alia BhattDirector: Shashank KhaitanWhat’s it about: After a super succeful Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Varun and Alia take the franchise ahead with Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The movie is a love story of Jhansi boy Badrinath and Vaidehi. While the couple will be reprising their roles as the lead couple, the film is said to be a dark love story with unexpected twists and turns.

17 Sarkar 3

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Ronit Roy, Yami Gautam and Amit SadhDirector: Ram Gopal VarmaWhat’s it about: Amitabh Bachchan returns in the third movie of the franchise. This time the other two Bachchans — Abhishek and Aishwarya — won’t be sharing screen space with him. However, there is a motley cast, comprising Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy and Amit Sadh, who have important roles in the film. And though RGV hasn’t had a movie to brag about in a while, this just might turn the tide for him.

March 24 Phillauri

Cast: Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj SharmaDirector: Anshai LalWhat’s it about: Anushka Sharma shares screen space with Diljit Dosanjh. Said to have a supernatural element to it, the movie is based on the residents of Phillaur town (in Jalandhar district of Punjab), who are known as Phillauris.

March 31 Naam Shabana

Cast: Taapsee Pannu with Akshay in a cameoDirector: Shivam NairWhat’s it about: The film marks Hindi cinema’s first spinoff in the making, a concept that is widely explored in the West. A spinoff from one of the characters from Baby (directed by Neeraj Pandey), it will also have cameos played by all the actors who had worked in the movie.

April 7Jagga Jasoos

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina KaifDirector: Anurag BasuWhat’s it about: Ranbir reunites with his Barfi! director Basu. The movie took quite some time to make. RK and Kat, who were a real-life couple, broke up during the making of the movie. The film will see RK playing a detective. The first look has people drawing comparisons with Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura. Will it be as entertaining? Let’s wait and watch.

April 28 Baahubali 2

Cast: Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, SathyarajDirector: SS RajamouliSo, why did Kattapa kill Baahubali? A question that has plagued the nation and inspired many memes. Here’s the chance to seek the answer to the question.

May 12 Meri Pyaari Bindu

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti ChopraDirector: Akshay RoyParineeti plays an aspiring singer and Ayushmann essays an author in this movie. The characters were introduced by YRF when the movie was launched and we must say that they do seem very interesting. Also, this will be first time that the two actors will be paired opposite each other, and a fresh pair always generates excitement.

May 19Half Girlfriend

Cast: Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha KapoorDirector: Mohit SuriWhat’s it about: Last time Arjun starred in a movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel (2 States), the film went on to become a massive hit. This time the actor will pair up with Shraddha Kapoor.

June 2Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

Cast: Akshay Kumar and Bhumi PednekarDirector: Shree Narayan SinghWhat’s it about: The love story that blossoms in this film has the male lead playing the character of a pay-and-use toilet owner who falls in love with a girl from the slum areas of the city. The film is believed to highlight the importance of the pay-and-use toilet scheme and curbing the social evil of defecating in the open. Akshay pairs up with YRF discovery Bhumi for this one. That’s another new pair to look forward, too.

June 9 Raabta

Cast: Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti SanonDirector: Dinesh VijanWhat’s it about: This romantic flick will see Sushant pairing up with Kriti. After playing Dhoni, and clocking `100 crore at the BO, there are a lot of expectations from this Sushant starrer. The movie will see producer Dinesh, who has co-produced films like Cocktail, make his directorial debut. Deepika Padukone’s dance number is expected to a big highlight.

July 14 Chef

Cast: Saif Ali Khan and Sobhita DhulipalaDirector: Raja Krishna MenonWhat’s it about: Saif’s Chef is the Indian remake of the hit Hollywood film of the same name. The film revolves around the life of a professional chef, who quits his job at a popular Los Angeles restaurant, to launch a food truck with his friend and son.

Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai

Cast: Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhanth Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Ankur BhatiaDirector: Apoorva LakhiaWhat’s it about: The film is based on Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar’s life. This will be Shraddha’s first biopic. She shares screen space with brother Siddhanth, who portrays the role of Dawood Ibrahim.

Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Ileana D’Cruz and Athiya ShettyDirector: Anees BazmeeWhat’s it about: Arjun and chachu Anil come together for the first time with this romantic comedy. Not just that, Arjun will also be seen in a double role and will have two leading ladies who he hasn’t worked with before — Ileana and Athiya.

August 4Secret Superstar

Cast: Zaira Wasim and Aamir KhanDirector: Advait ChandanWhat’s it about: Child actress Zaira Wasim, who also featured in Dangal will be seen playing an aspiring singer, who isn’t allowed to pursue her passion by her strict father. She then uploads a video of her singing, but covers her face in it. What happens next forms the crux of the movie.

August 11 The Ring/Rahnuma

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka SharmaDirector: Imtiaz AliWhat’s it about: SRK will play a European tourist guide, who meets a woman from Gujarat who is on a vacation. This is the third time SRK and Anushka have been paired together, and their first collaboration with Imtiaz.

September 1Baadshaho

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta and Sanjay MishraDirector: Milan LuthriaWhat’s it about: Baadshaho is inspired by real-life events during the Emergency and revolves around stolen gold, a thief, an undercover cop, a royal lady and an army officer who is entrusted with protecting the country’s treasure.

September 15 Simran

Cast: Kangana Ranaut and Sohum ShahDirector: Hansal MehtaWhat’s it about: This will be Kangana’s next release after Rangoon. Mehta, who directed the intense Aligarh, gets behind the camera for this one. The film is about a simple girl in US and how she gets embroiled in the world of crime. Will Kangana come up with another Queen?

September 29 Judwaa 2

Cast: David DhawanDirector: Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee PannuWhat’s it about: Judwaa starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Rambha. This sequel that’s being made 20 years later will see a fresh cast. Salman and Karisma may be seen in cameos. The last time Varun and dad David united on screen with Main Tera Hero, they delivered a crackling product. Fans will definitely look forward to this one.

OctoberDiwali Release2.O

Cast: Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy JacksonDirector: ShankarWhat’s it about: The sequel to Robot will feature Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, while Akshay will play a baddie. Akshay’s look in the movie has already created a lot of buzz.

Golmaal Again

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra and Tusshar KapoorDirector: Rohit ShettyWhat’s it about: Ajay and Rohit come together to create another laugh riot. Will the Golmaal franchise do well yet again? That remains to be seen.

November 17 Padmavati

Cast: Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid KapoorDirector: Sanjay Leela BhansaliWhat’s it about: Ranveer-Deepika reunite with director Bhansali. Shahid joins the cast in this period drama. 

December 22 Sanjay Dutt biopic

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Akshaye KhannaDirector: Rajkumar HiraniWhat’s it about: Hirani, who has worked with Sanju in the Munnabhai series as well as PK, is helming this project. Ranbir will step into Sanju’s shoes, while Akshaye will play Sunil Dutt.

Tiger Zinda Hai

Cast: Salman Khan and Katrina KaifDirector: Ali Abbas ZafarWhat’s it about: Ali will take over the mantle from Ek Tha Tiger director Kabir Khan. The plot is being kept under wraps, but Bhai’s fans don’t need a reason to see his movies, right?
