Sai Pallavi is fluent in Tamil as she grew up in Coimbatore. Her first film was director Alphonse Putharen's Premam and now it looks like she is here to stay. Mani Ratnam reportedly conducted a screen test and was impressed with the young lady. She has been signed on for a film opposite actor Karthi.

Director Mani Ratnam was supposed to start a project with Karthi and Dulquer Salmaan last year but it fell through. He then wrote a script for Karthi and seems to have zeroed in on Sai Pallavi to play the leading actress. Karthi is currently shooting Kashmora and Thozha. Once he wraps up these films, he will start the Mani Ratnam project.
