Pankaj Tripathi reacts to Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina controversy: 'it is not okay to take pride....'

Actor Pankaj Tripathi has shared his thoughts on the controversy involving Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina on India’s Got Latent. Addressing the issue, he emphasised the importance of cultural values, responsible speech, and the fleeting nature of viral fame.

In an interview with SCREEN, Pankaj Tripathi spoke about the growing trend of internet personalities gaining instant fame. He noted that while many people become popular overnight, it is crucial to consider whether they possess the sensibility, literary knowledge, and social awareness needed to handle such influence.

“This is the world of the internet, and every person has an opinion. Many become famous suddenly, but where is the sensibility? Do they have the intelligence required in terms of literature, social behaviour, and understanding of society’s cultural values?” he questioned.

The actor further pointed out that the absence of strict censorship does not justify making offensive remarks in the name of entertainment. He stated that while humour and lightheartedness are acceptable, taking pride in speaking senselessly is not. “It is okay to have fun saying nonsense, but it is not okay to take pride in uttering nonsense. More importantly, it should never be purely nonsensical,” he added.

Tripathi also urged people not to take viral fame too seriously, comparing it to a temporary illness. “Anyone can go viral, but just like a viral illness, it will last for a few days, and then we move on,” he said. He stressed the importance of understanding the reasons behind success and using influence responsibly.

The controversy erupted after Ranveer Allahbadia made inappropriate remarks on India’s Got Latent, including a disturbing question posed to a contestant. 

Following public outrage, a police complaint was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija. The FIR accuses them of promoting obscene and sexually explicit content on the show under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
