Pandit Birju Maharaj to give Kathak lessons on Madhuri Dixit's online dance academy

After dazzling the audiences with their special jugalbandi act on dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 6, Pandit Birju Maharaj and Madhuri Dixit are back again. This time to share their knowledge of dance with the world.

Kathak legend Pandit Birju Maharaj will soon be giving dancing lessons through Madhuri Dixit's online dance academy, www.dancewithmadhuri.com.

Madhuri's online academy aims to give the best and will keep getting experts like pandit ji to share their art and expertise with dance lovers.

Madhuri, who is a trained Kathak dancer herself, wanted to share this form of dance with everyone and requested Pt Birju Maharaj to teach Kathak at her online academy.

Pandit ji will begin with teaching thumri, some key mudras, footwork and abhinaya (expressions).

Panditji who recently choreographed Madhuri in Dedh Ishqiya says, “I think it's an excellent initiative by Madhuri to teach various forms of dance on an online academy. I believe it will help a lot of people to learn and understand dance better.”

Through the online academy, the dancing diva brings her popular dance numbers together in different styles like salsa, contemporary, jazz, etc.

An interesting addition to the academy is Dancercise, which is a combination of dance and workout and helps you stay fit. In this format, Madhuri shares her secrets of staying in shape through the special workout.

The website starts with a tour which takes a user through the process of taking up a class. It then has Madhuri giving a brief introduction about the need to learn dance and how it helps a person in every sphere of life.

The legendary Kathak dancer has also choreographed Madhuri in Kahe Ched Ched Mohe for Devdas (2002). Interestingly, the song was also composed by the maestro.
