Father's Day: Bollywood father-son pairs who rocked on screen

Most kids would shudder at the thought of having their father joining them at work. But when you are in B-Town films become a family business. Fathers provide their sons and sometimes daughters with a launch pad and even share screen space with them. Here are some B-Town father-children jodis that have had successful associations on screen too.

Raj Kapoor-Randhir, Rishi and  Rajeev Kapoor

Raj Kapoor mentored his sons when they made their big screen debut. While Randhir directed his own acting debut — Kal Aaj Aur Kal — he did have his father sharing screen space with him. Decades later when Raj Kapoor died after completing the shoot of some parts of Heena, it was Dabboo, who took over the reins and successfully complete the movie, which went on to become a hit. Rishi Kapoor worked under his father’s direction in Bobby as well as Prem Rog, both movies went on to find their place in the histroy of cinema. Rajeev made his debut under his dad’s direction too. His debut film saw him sharing screen space with Mandikini in Ram Tei Ganga Maili.

Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor worked with his super talented son Ranbir in Besharam. In fact this was a family outing as Neetu too was a part of it. However, the Kapoors will probably want to forget that this movie ever happened. Not only did the movie get bad reviews, it was a disaster at the box office too. But fans will definitely want to see the two come together again with a movie that does justice to their talent.

Aditya and Sooraj Pancholi

Sooraj like Akshaye Khanna worked with his dad in his debut movie itself. However, the movie didn’t really do well at the box office. But the father-son duo do share great chemistry. However, Aditya’s forte is being the bad guy and it would be fun to see him make his son’s life difficult on screen.

Dharmendra-Sunny/Bobby Deol

Dharmendra, who provided launch vehclues to both his sons, has acted with them too. Dharmendra has shared screen space more times with Sunny than he has with Bobby. But the trio came together with Apne, which was an emotional saga of a family of boxers, and then were again seen together in the comic caper Yamla Pagla Deewana.

Amitabh Bachchan-Abhishek Bachchan

Though Abhishek made his B-Town debut in 2000, he first shared screen space with dad Amitabh in 2005. And breaking away from the baap-beta norm, Abhishek played a crook while Big B played the cop on his trail in Bunty Aur Babli. Post that the two have done many movie like Sarkar, Sarkar 2, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Paa together, and the two have shared great chemistry every time they have faced the cameras together.

Mahesh Bhatt-Pooja Bhatt

In B-Town it’s mostly sons, who have been launched by their actor or director/producer dads. But Mahesh Bhatt has never followed the norm. The filmmaker gave his daughter a brilliant, performance-oriented debut vehicle in the form of the TV-film Daddy that had Anupam Kher playing her on-screen dad. But that wasn’t the end of their association on screen. He later directed Pooja in many films like  Sadak, Junoon, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Sir, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Tadipaar, Chaahat, Tamanna and Zakhm. Pooja has always admitted that her father has been a huge influence on her. No wonder then, like her dad she too went behind the camera and made hr directorial debut with Paap.

Vinod Khanna-Akshaye Khanna

Vinod Khanna did not only produce his son Akshaye’s debut movie Himalayputra, but the father-son even shared screen space. Predictably they played father-son in the movie that was directed by Pankaj Parashar. Though the movie didn’t do wonders at the box office, the movie proved to be a successful launch vehicle for Akshaye.
