Norah Jones’ maiden show in Mumbai

While her half-sister Anoushka Shankar has played at various venues across India in the past, and recently made news as one of the headliners at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender Delhi to be held next month, here’s the bigger news – Norah Jones will play her first Indian show in Mumbai in March, next year. Daughter of Indian sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, American actress, singer, songwriter and pianist, Jones, 33, has nine Grammy awards to her credit.

Named A Summer’s Day, this one-day festival will be dedicated to women and will be curated accordingly. “A Summer’s Day is our new festival which will be headlined by Norah Jones,” announced music entrepreneur and organiser of the fest Vijay Nair.

“We decided to do a festival designed especially for women… A Summer’s Day will take place in March, and the security and safety issues will be taken care of… headlining this festival will be Norah in her first ever performance in the country,” said Nair as he revealed the big news over the weekend at the Loudest Day of the Year, a music event at Liberty Theatre. Besides, Nair also revealed a host of other news – kick starting of the second season of the travel-music show The Dewarists, and a soon to be aired all new fiction show called Bring on the Night directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy of the music band Scribe and a pre-weekender party for dogs in Delhi.
