The untold story of the courageous Neerja Bhanot starring Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi, has been receiving accolades from the critics and the audience alike. The film that released on February 19, 2016 narrates the story of Neerja, a flight purser on the hijacked Pan Am flight who sacrificed her life while protecting 359 passengers. Sonam’s portrayal of Neerja has been deeply lauded by the critics and the box office figures are proof of it. Here are 6 awesome scenes that definitely caught our attention!
Shooting Scene:
The scene where Neerja Bhanot gets shot by the terrorists is the most disheartening scene in the film. It is a depiction of her resilience in the eyes of danger protecting three innocent children from getting shot at, by the terrorists.
Rama Bhanot’s Speech:
Shabana Azmi has shined through the film with her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot’s mother. The wonder and the pride she feels at the bravery of her daughter is seen in this scene. The climax completely rests on Azmi's shoulder and she pulls off a stunner, expectedly.
Opening scene:
Sonam Kapoor’s conversation with the taxi driver in the beginning of the scene sheds lights on the zealous and free-spirited Neerja Bhanot. “Babu Moshai Zindagi badi honi chahiye lambi nahi’’, the line echoes her sacrifice and her valiance appropriately.
Second chance at love for Neerja:
The scene where Sonam Kapoor reads the letter she receives from Shekhar Ravjiani. It powerfully portrays Neerja’s moment of happiness in that painful and dangerous situation to hope even where there’s only despair. Kudos to Sonam for pulling that off so brilliantly that even we got choked.
Neerja’s quick thinking:
When Neerja asks the passengers to hide their American passports in the film shows her ability think on her feet and deal with a life threatening situation with such calmness! Touche!
Neerja sings a song:
The most heart wrenching point in the film when the terrorist mocks Neerja asking her to sing her favourite song. She starts ‘’Mere Sapnon ki rani kab aayegi tu’’. This poignant scene marks Neerja’s bravery in the face of danger. We love.
