My next film will have a lot of bloodshed: Abbas Tyrewala

He hit bullseye at the box-office with his very first film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and now director Abbas Tyrewala hopes to hit the jackpot again with his forthcoming film, one that stars his wife Pakhi and John Abraham.

However, unlike the last time, this time around the director is laden with both expectations as well as pressures. “I am glad that there are expectations as it has upped my confidence and I try not to think about the pressures at all,” says the director admitting to being anxious, but not nervous.

Abbas is also aware that comparisons are bound to happen, since this film too like his previous film is high on the friendship and ‘college gang dynamics’.

Abbas justifies: “Both the films have been heavily drawn from instances from our real lives. I think that’s why most of us would be able to connect with them. Somewhere, everyone will be able to see a part of themselves or their friends in our characters. Inspite of that we all have such different stories to tell. So, here too the story is completely different, but as relatable as JTYJN… It’s all  about realising the beauty of life over the option of ending it. It’s about rediscovering life with friends,” he explains.

Was it difficult directing wife Pakhi? “On the sets, the wife took a backseat completely. She was Pakhi, the actor and the writer, who’s very passionate about the project. That made directing easy. She has lived and breathed the story right since it’s inception, so it’s her baby and she understood the character perfectly.”
Abbas is also unperturbed about having to shoot romantic scenes between Pakhi and John. “They are both actors when on the sets and very professional. So am I,” he smiles.

Abbas is also all praises for his lead actor, John. Talking about the challenge of getting John to tone down his hunky image completely, he says, It was in fact John who took it up as a challenge to fit the part of the nerd. He’s really got under the skin of his character here.”

Are you looking forward to continue making films in the same genre?

“Well, I just hope to continue making films, not necessarily in the same genre. Like, in my next film I am hoping to have a lot of bloodshed! It’ll be a hard-core action thriller,” he reveals.
