Irrespective of having a great run on Amazon Prime Video, Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Master is pulling the crowd to theatres too. The film was released on January 13, 2021, after a long wait. Within 20 days, it streamed on the popular OTT platform too. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film managed to enter Rs 100 crore club in the first week of its release. In the first five days, Master minted Rs 101 crore nett plus.

And in the next few days, the film made a collection of Rs 125 crore at the domestic box office. Now, on the 33rd day of Master's release, the film crossed Rs 11.56 crore in Chennai City itself. This means the film has crossed the collections of Vijay's 2016 release Theri.

Trade analyst Kaushil LM tweeted, "Blockbuster #Master 33-days total Chennai city gross is 11.56 CR. Has crossed #Theri's lifetime Chennai city gross (11.5 CR). Still running."

Earlier while talking about his role in Master and the film's digital release, Vijay had said in a statement, "In the film, I am essaying the character of an alcoholic college professor named John Durairaj, who is transferred to a juvenile school, that’s where he meets his archnemesis Bhavani, played by Vijay Sethupathi who has been using the children of the school in question for his own personal profit. I am certain that the interesting duel between John and Bhavani will take the audiences on a roller-coaster ride of action, and drama. I am glad that the fans can enjoy the film on Amazon Prime Video in India and across the world."
