Malyalam actress Kalpana Ranjani on Monday passed away at the age of 51 in Hyderabad.

Kalpana, sister of film actresses Urvashi and Kalaranjini, was found unconscious in her hotel room, reports Manoramaonline.com. She was then rushed to the Apollo hospital where doctors declared her dead. Kalpana was in Hyderabad for the shooting of a Telugu film. 

She is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

Kalpana won National award for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in Thanichalla Njan. She made her debut in MT Vasudevan Nair's Manj in 1983 and since then worked in over 300 movies. 

She was known for comic roles, especially in Malayali cinema. She recently made a music album with Usha Uthup. Kalpana also published her memoir Njan Kalpana.

Kalpana was last seen in Khaaki Sattai as Siva Karthikeyan's mother.
