Malayalam actor and comedian Mala Aravindan died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 72 and is survived by wife and two children.

The actor was admitted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) on January 19 following breathing problems. He was later diagnosed with heart and kidney failure andpulmonary disease. Initially, he was put on ventilator and ondialysis, but was subsequently taken off and was on non invasive ventilator and dialysis, a bulletin from KMCH said.

The actor was making slow progress, but his condition deteriorated early this morning and he suffered a cardiac arrest. All attempts at resuscitation proved futile and he expired at 6.27 AM, it said.
