Madhur Bhandarkar takes on Sanjay Leela Bhansali?

Though director Madhur Bhandarkar admits that his film Heroine is completely based on the Mumbai film industry, he has been maintaining that none of the characters are based on or inspired by any industry personality.

However, those who’ve seen the film can’t help but notice the similarities between actor Ranvir Shorey’s character and that of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranvir who plays a rather eccentric director in the film is shown to be rather moody at times and talking about aesthetic values over corporate figures. Says a source, “Ranvir wears a lot of kurtas and his look as well as the attitude bear an uncanny resemblance to Bhansali.” An industry insider reveals that during the making of Saawariya, there had been rumours about how Bhansali at one point had asked then debutante actor Sonam Kapoor to stand outside the sets as a punishment. Also, the instance where Ranvir’s character hurls  a phone in anger is said to have been inpsired by a similar, real incident associated with Bhansali.

Though Madhur denies that the said character is based on any one person, he points out that some incidents have in fact, been drawn from Hollywood too.
