No Ram Gopal Varma film can hit the screens without some or the other controversy, it seems! And the latest to join the bandwagon is his upcoming venture Lakshmi’s NTR that is set to hit the screens on March 22. In a new update, a worker of Telugu Desam Party, Devibabu Choudhary has filed a petition with the Election Commission to stall the film’s release till the Lok Sabha Elections to be held on April 11.

For the uninitiated, Lakshmi’s NTR is a story based on late Chief Minister and actor from united Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and his relationship with Lakshmi Parvathy, his second wife. Back in the day, their relationship was heavily criticized with many doubting Lakshmi’s motives as well. It was around the same time that NTR was also ousted from his position as leader of the party in a coup orchestrated by Chandrababu Naidu, the present Chief Minister of AP and also the leader of Telugu Desam Party.

Apparently, Devibabu’s petition has been moved to the State’s Electoral Officer for action. His petition claims that the film shows Chandrababu Naidu in a negative light – as seen in the film’s trailers and that it could possibly influence the voters. What’s more, he has also claimed that RGV is mentally unstable!

Interestingly, the two trailers of the film garnered more interest than the trailers of the actor/politician’s biopic that was made into two films Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu starring his son Nandamuri Balakrishna, both of which failed to work at the box office. In fact, two trailers released by Ram Gopal Varma, have registered a record number of likes as well.

With RGV’s Lakshmi’s NTR being made on a low budget and the trailer creating an unprecedented buzz, there are great expectations from the film and pre-release business has been great as well. The film has been jointly directed by RGV and Agasthya Manju.
