Karan Johar is making his acting debut in period drama Bombay Velvet' and the movie's director Anurag Kashyap feels that the fellow filmmaker will surprise the audience with his performance.

Johar, 42, will play a negative role in the film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma besides the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai helmer. 

"I throughly enjoyed working with Karan Johar and he will surprise you all when you will see him in the film. A director actually is a very good actor and only a director can understand that," Anurag told PTI.

Bombay Velvet, a romantic thriller, is slated to hit theatres on May 15. Anurag is also set for another acting venture in Sudhir Mishra's Aur Devdas post his special appearances in Happy New Year and Bhoothnath Returns.

"I am working in Aur Devdas for a small appearance. It's a Sudhir Mishra film and I am playing a father in it. I make appearances in films for some emotional reasons. I did Happy New Year for Shah Rukh and Farah," he said.
