Lasseter, who is also the Chief creative officer of Disney's Pixar, broke the news on Friday at D23 Expo.

Lasseter invited Cooley to the stage, revealing that the Riley's First Date? helmer has assumed full responsibilities of the film. Cooley called 'it one of the greatest honours of (his) life.'

The pair brought with them a behind-the-scenes look taken at Pixar headquarters that introduced the movie's crew.

Lasseter may have left the direction to Cooley but he will be producing the film along with Jonas Rivera.

Toy Story 4 is set to release in the US theatres on June 21, 2019.
