Looks like India is emerging as the next big destination for
International artistes. In 2010 alone, a lot of international bands, toured India. Sting paid India a visit in November while pop star Madonna is also rumoured to be expected here sometime towards the year end. Bryan Adams will be touring India in February for concerts at a few cities while rock band Prodigy is expected to be in the country in the month of January.
He will be touring four cities —Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi. India will get to see Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim — aka The Prodigy, the group behind hits like Firestarter, Breathe and Smack my B**tch Up. They are coming to India as a part of the Invasion festival. The band will perform in Bangalore on January 13 and in Delhi on January 15 .
A few Indian bands performed at international venues as well. Indian rock band, Parikrama was invited to the Kennedy Centre in March and then a feature film was released on Indian Ocean. Midival Punditz’s (a Delhi-based band) track Atomizer was the official soundtrack for the Fifa World Cup 2010 video game.
While fans in the country are thrilled about the concerts lined up, we asked celebs about their favourite rock bands and if they
would like to see them perform live.
Shweta Keswani, TV actress: “Counting Crows, Coldplay, REM and John Mayor.”
Luke Kenny, musician: “I recently has the opportunity to meet one of the biggest bands in the world, U2, and I’d like to see them perform live in the city. I would love to see them come to our country and perform live. It will be a great experience.”
Samir Dattani, film actor: “I’d like to see Chris Martin perform live on stage. Coldplay headed by Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland is my favourite.”
Aarya Babbar, film actor: “Faithless, because it is all about music, sound and lyrics. Maxi Jazz is awesome too. I heard the crowd went crazy in London when Faithless played in Brixton church and they have this superb track called God is a DJ.”
Purab Kohli, film actor: “Radiohead for sure.”
