Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the film is based on the life of a legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass, who sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack, when his hunting team leaves him for dead. It revolves around how Glass utilises his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family. Addressing the threats surrounding the nature in his acceptance speech, DiCaprio said, ‘Climate Change is real. It’s happening right now. Let’s not take this planet for granted.’ Not only was this an emotional moment for DiCaprio, but also his ‘Titanic’ co-star Kate Winslet was seen crying while he was accepting the honour. Fighting for the same title were Eddie Redmayne for ‘The Danish Girl,’ Michael Fassbender for ‘Steve Jobs,’ Matt Damon for ‘The Martian’ and Bryan Cranston for ‘Trumbo.’ This was DiCaprio’s fifth Oscar nomination.
