International Lungi Day: Actors who rocked the lungi look on screen

While men find the dhoti or lungi comfortable, not many of them can carry it off well on screen. But some of them have made the lungi a fashion statement.

Rajinikanth

He is known as the Superstar and he truly is. He has fans from the US to Japan and South Africa and can do no wrong according to them. Rajinikanth made his debut as a baddie in Tamil films and is today worshipped by his fans for his style. He became a superstar in Japan as well after his film 'Muthu' became a huge hit there. In the film, 'Thillana Thillana' was a big hit but it was in 'Kuluvalile Muthu' he dazzled in his white shirt and lungi.

Kamal Haasan is one Indian actor who loves the dhoti - not just because he is from Chennai and acts in Tamil films but also because he likes the look. In fact the actor even wears it to public functions at times. Right from his early years on screen, the actor has wore it for many roles. The interesting thing about Kamal Haasan sporting a dhoti is that he has a different look each time! Right from Virumaandi to Thevar Magar to 2015's Papanasam, Kamal Haasan has changed his look. He makes the dhoti trendy and adds charisma to it.

Pawan Kalyan

This Tollywood star is known for swag. But he also took to doing the 'Lungi Dance' on screen. Pawan Kalyan is an actor who is known for his outfits. Once SRK made the lungi famous in a dance, Pawan Kalyan decided to follow suit by wearing a white dhoti and shirt for a song in the blockbuster 'Attarintiki Daredi'. He wore the outfit in the song Kevvu Keka and the audience went crazy not only because the song was sensational but also because of Pawan Kalyan's dance.

Ajith

​This Tamil star doesn't talk to the media much. But his suave demeanour on screen is a craze among the audience. Ajith loves to sport a white silk dhoti and silk shirt. He has worn it on screen for many of his films and even wears it off-screen for festive occasions. What makes the look more sizzling is his salt-and-pepper hair. The actor has refused to dye his hair in recent times but it hardly matters - he looks as handsome as ever!

Nivin Pauly

This Malayalam actor had a fantastic 2015. His movie Premam is still running in some theatres even after it released in June! Nivin Pauly stole the hearts of many women across the world when he appeared on screen in a beard sporting black sunglasses, black shirt and lungi. In fact, guys also started to copy this look because they found it very rugged and macho. The way Nivin Pauly folded the lungi and walked really had an impact on the audience. This look will remain hot in South India in 2016 too.

Shah Rukh Khan

No one in Bollywood can beat King Khan and his ‘Lungi Dance’ in Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express. Shah Rukh Khan created the rage of the lungi dance in India and it's even found it's way into the Wikipedia now. Other stars started to copy his dhoti style but he is the trendsetter and the true Badshah of the Lungi! Though the star did the 'Lungi Dance'as a tribute to Superstar Rajinikanth, he made this garment an international sensation. And Chennai Express was a superhit. Even today wherever Shah Rukh goes in India or abroad, fans want him to perform the 'Lungi dance'. In fact, when SRK went to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in UK on October 15 for his philanthropic work, he did the the dance to the delight of all the students there. What's more even the audience joined him!
