WWE Diva Eve Torres is working hard and doing all that it requires to be one. In a candid chat with DNA, she shares what brings her to the ring and where she is headed.
Tell us how many of you think WWE Divas are all beauty and no brains? Well, it isn’t that often that you get to see a diva who has got it all — beauty, brains and skills. Meet Eve Torres, who is not here just to light up the screen and the ring with her beauty and body. She has not only been trained in Jiu-Jitsu, but also holds a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Surprised? Don’t be because in her chat with DNA, Eve makes it clear that she loves being part of WWE and is using her Diva power to accomplish a mission — giving women a new image.
Being a Diva — dream or coincidence
A little bit of both. I wanted to be a WWE Diva, but never thought I would get an opportunity or could do it. I was dancing for The Southern California Summer Pro League, a basketball team, when I heard about the Diva search. I kept my eyes and ears opened about the auditions and as soon as they called for it, I wasted no time. Finally, in 2007 I found myself as the winner of the Diva search and signed the contract. I entered the show with high hopes and dreams, which I now see coming true. I felt like it embodied everything I love — competition, entertainment, travelling and doing community services. WWE encompasses and gives me an opportunity to do all of this.
It takes more than skill and looks
The most important factor to be a Diva is to be willing to work hard. It’s a tough job; physically and mentally. You have to be confident, be athletic and have speaking skills. Beauty is just a part of it. You can’t be looking like a Barbie doll all the time. I’m proud of being a Diva. We are surrounded by guys who are legends and get to represent women in a powerful way. We give them a different image — of staying confident and not be intimidated.
All in for community services
Being part of WWE, I get to do a lot of social activities and that’s the best part of it all. For instance, bullying is a major problem in schools in USA. We go to different schools and hold talks and discussions in an effort to put an end to this problem. We also have something called ‘Make a Wish’, where we visit terminally ill patients who wish to meet us. We try to give them the best day of their lives. We also travel overseas to meet the military troops.
Eve off the screen:
Is someone who encourages ‘woman empowerment’. I teach women self-defense. For this, I obviously have to stay fit; should be able to represent myself confidently and hold an image. I want every girl to look at me as a role model.
Eat right, stay fit:
You can not eat and be skinny, but that won’t last for long. It’s about being healthy. We need to have energy for which we need to eat right. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. I ensure I get a good intake of proteins. I have fish and stay low on carbs to stay leaner. I never miss my workouts. I do a combination of weight and high-intensity cardio.
Where there’s gym facility I use it, but when home, I go for dance classes, run on the beach — I do anything but stay off the gym. This is important because if you do the same thing, the body will not respond.
Always looking for a change:
You have to strive for different opportunities. Like I said, I always keep my eyes and ears open. I enjoy what I’m doing, but I think I can do better. I can go out, get exposure and bring it back to the ring. I want to do something as a performer and an entertainer — that’s what I’m good at. I have already won a reality show, Stars Earn Stripes. I want to continue to build my brand as well.
