Actor Emraan Hashmi is riding high on the success of his recent films. The actor has had a great run at the box-office with the past couple of films, the latest one being Jannat 2. The film, which opened to a good response, has catapulted Emraan to the top league of actors, better known as the A-lister bracket.

Ask Emraan about this and he smiles. “I love it. All my life I have aspired for it. I am very happy that I have managed to keep my audience content and happy. It just reinforces the industry’s faith in me as an actor and a performer. It feels great when your hard work pays off,” says Emraan. However, he is quick to add that he doesn’t take the number game too seriously. With most actors wanting the numero uno spot in B-Town, Emraan is in no hurry to reach the top. “I know there is a lot of talk going on. But I know where I stand. It’s important to have a reality check. I know I am not invincible,” he says.

His family members, says Emraan, are his critics and biggest fans. “I wouldn’t call them critics, but they keep me grounded. They tell me when I am good and when I am really bad. At the end of the day, they are the ones  who keep me on my toes,” he says. What about his audience’s appreciation? Does the escalation of expectations unnerve him? “I don’t think so. The responsibility does increase, but it isn’t any sort of pressure at all. In fact when your audience expects more, you automatically become aware of the choices you have to make,” says Emraan.

His status as a star of merit may have risen after having given three hits consecutively at the box-office, but it’s yet to dehypenate him from the serial kisser tag. “It is all a matter of people’s perceptions. If you have to survive here, you have to learn to not take all this seriously. I don’t associate myself with the tag anymore. I know I can’t be accepted in a complete rom-com today, but there will be a gradual shift in my image,” says Emraan.
