Ooooooof! It's the first time I'm late for an interview. I was to meet the Nanu of Pyaar ke Side/ Effects aka Ranvir Shorey at a cafe in Andheri. I'm late by half an hour for reasons best known to me. Evidently, he has tremendous patience, he welcomes me with a warm hug. Lighting up a cigarette, he tells me he has to attend a show of Khosla ka Ghosla. I must hurry up. I do:
Playing Nanu in Pyar ke Side/ Effects seemed like second nature to you.
I wouldn't say that I identified with the character... but he’s a bit of a slob like all of us. We all have our lazy Sundays when we don't want to have a shower. Nanu is also a commitment phobic guy, like most young men nowadays.
Are you commitment phobic?
No. That's Nanu's attribute, not mine. I don't give into commitments easily.. but if I ever get committed, I’ll be totally for it.
Did you expect The Great Indian Laughter Show to become the success it has?
It came at a time when viewers were fed up of the unending saas-bahu sagas. Our show was a refreshing change. The short gags and stand-up performances have clicked. The team of scriptwriters, with Arshad Syed and RD Telang, come up with amazing lines.
Why quit veejaying for Channel V?
I stopped veejaying four years ago. I wanted to grow out of that phase.
After your unpleasant break-up with Pooja Bhatt, how are your relations with the Bhatts?
I'm not in touch with them or Pooja Bhatt for that matter. I acted in Jism for her, but after that I didn't keep in touch with her. I'm neutral on that front. Neither have the Bhatts approached me for roles nor do I crave for work from them.
What about your on-and-off relationship with Konkona Sen Sharma?
Enough is enough. I can't stop the media from talking. As far as settling down is concerned, it will happen in the near future, when... I don't know.
