Sajid Nadiadwala is fighting allegations of underworld links once again after his film ‘Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’ was listed as one of the films financed by Abu Salem. “These kind of things keep happening to me. I have started taking it in my stride. I don’t know how my film ‘Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega’ appeared in that list. I do not know anyone from the underworld. I assume because the other controversial film, which supposedly had underworld links, had the same cast of Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji as did my film. I was initially very upset. But then I thought probably it was a mistake. I have sent a notice to the paper which ran that report.”

Eight years ago, his name had been dragged into a similar controversy, but this time Sajid is not getting overly worked up about it. “Why would I need the help of the underworld? Only those who have no access to the stars will need to use the underworld’s clout. I had been doing films with Salman Khan for years. I knew Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji very well too. And my film was a relatively small film, made in Rs 11 crore. It was not one of those huge productions that need outside help. For heaven’s sake, we have been financing outside films, so where is the question of us seeking any kind of help from the underworld? I don’t really mind being in the public eye, because this is a high-profile industry. All our good deeds are highlighted, so obviously we have to accept the flip side too…there is no alternative.”

Does he think Bollywood is more vulnerable to getting mixed up with the underworld? “Not really. The underworld is not only targeting the Bollywood. They must be having builders and others in the list. But only people from our industry get talked about because of obviously the nature of our profession. I don’t think we are vulnerable because all we have to do is ask for police protection.”

Does he really feel secure with the police protection? “Why not? As far as I know, no one who has asked for police protection has been targeted once they got it.”
