Acting came by quite by chance and now the actor is known to be selective in the work he does. After being an architect in Delhi, it was performing in a play that brought Sumeet Sachdev to Mumbai. He has not looked back since.
Doing films is not big on the actor’s agenda. He is very clear that he will “stick to A-grade projects, be it films or television”. In spite of being appreciated for his work, Sumeet has been choosy and has not taken up many projects. Ask him why and he explains, “I don’t want to be a victim of greed.”
However, after five long years, he now plans to give some time to architecture. “I have started my own firm along with a friend,” he says.
Revealing a trait he shares with on screen Gautam, Sumeet says, “
I am firm like my character Gautam in ‘Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ (Star Plus). Only, I don’t get angry the way he does”. Refusing to comment whether he is single in real life, he quips, “After playing a married man in ‘Kyunkii…”, I very often feel like one.”
Currently playing actor Pallavi Subhash’s fiancé in Balaji’s new serial ‘Karam Apnaa Apnaa’, Sumeet is cagey about his role in it. “You will have to wait and watch. All I can say is that Salil Ankola who plays Pallavi’s brother thinks that I am the ideal guy to get married to his sister,” he says.
Sumeet is also shooting for a 13-episode thriller called ‘Carbon Copy’ (Star One) and says that his role of an ex-boyfriend is the best that he has played so far.
Sumeet keeps it low on the social front too, attending very few parties. If parties are a big no, then how does he freak out? “I really don’t freak out. When I get time, I play tennis.” And on whether he is shy by nature, he replies, “I am not shy. It’s just that I am more into myself. I am an extrovert when I choose to be one.”
Music has always been a part of Sumeet’s life. He likes to sing and play the piano. “I would like to be a part of musical theatre someday.” Interestingly, the multi-faceted Sumeet also wants to write a short film some day too.
