It’s a small black, inconsequential little pencil, but Katrina Kaif holds on to it as if it holds the key to her deepest treasures.

Throughout the interview, she insists on playing with it, twirling it around in her hands, scribbling imaginary lines in the air, as the questions start to veer towards her relationship with Salman Khan. Clearly she’s uncomfortable.

“I have always maintained that I hate talking about my personal life. I am going to get married some day, have kids, and some day they are going to go on the internet and ask me, “Mom how many boyfriends did you have?” she says sheepishly.

“I have always believed that there is life before marriage and after marriage. Before marriage, whatever you may do, you are termed a single woman and I choose to conduct that part of my life with absolute dignity and discretion,” the svelte actress says.

Ask her about all the rumours surrounding her and Salman’s rocky relationship, and she prefers to keep a studied silence. But she is more forthcoming about how she manages to keep her relationship on track.

“I have learnt to keep my professional and personal life separate. We are shooting round-the-clock, in long schedules. There is so much pressure as it is.

If I add the pressure put by the media and the outside world, I will not be able to function. I prefer to keep the media out of my personal life.”

On the professional front, Katrina is excited about her forthcoming projects with Yashraj opposite Ranbir Kapoor as well as her next release ‘Welcome’ with Akshay Kumar.

“‘Welcome’ is one film which will be a bundle of laughs. In fact I watched the rushes with the sound off, and I was still laughing my heart out.” Doesn’t she have to carry Akshay in a scene?

“yes, but of course I didn’t actually carry him. I could never achieve that in a hundred years. We had wired holding him up. That would have been scary!”
