Size really doesn’t matter and Bollywood seems to be thriving on this mantra these days. So, when small budget films with non-stars recover their worth and more, and are also appreciated by critics and the audience, we’re talking of a ‘hit’ film. One such example from last year was Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster (SBAG).

Such was the success of the SBAG that the makers announced a sequel, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, soon after. And from May 15, the unit and cast start shooting a 40-day schedule at Baroda, followed by a second schedule in Rajasthan.

Producer of the film and managing director of Brandsmith Motion Pictures, Rahul Mittra states, “Both, director Tigmanshu Dhulia and I know well that ours is a content heavy film, everything else comes after this. Considering the way SBAG was received, we knew we had to give the industry and the audience that and more with the sequel.”

So, the sequel, which is a continuation from where the earlier film ended, also has Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill and the new entrants are actors Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan. “Both the new faces step into the saheb’s haveli and their characters are intrinsically woven into the plot. At the same time, one wouldn’t feel lost on seeing SBAG Returns without having seen the first film,” quips Rahul.

While a lot of film-makers and production houses are cashing in on successful franchises, Rahul wants to clear one point. “If you notice, most of the so-called sequels are only sequels in name but our film is a sequel in story. So, apart from the thrills and chills of the first film, there’s going to be more of it in this one,” he states. As producer, Rahul agrees that it’s hard to deny the box office.

“Yes, I love film-making, but I also want my films to earn enough revenue. Having said that, I’d never want to take help of stars or forced item numbers to make my film work. There was some talk about erotica in SBAG Returns but I really don’t need sex to sell my film,” clears Rahul, adding, “Loyalists of the brand are in for a huge surprise — as the story gets bigger and better.”
