“I was doing some theatre while in my hometown Jammu. When I learnt of an audition, I landed up here. And as luck would have it, I got selected.”
Does she empathise with her character “Completely! I am Rani and Rani is me. Like her, I am a simple, bholi bhali girl. There’s no artifice in us both.”
She adds, “We both love our families and can do anything for them. Any problem is tackled with a lot of emotional strength. The only difference between me and Rani is, that while I am educated, she s not. Right now, I am busy preparing for my FYJC exams. I get my books on the sets.”
Far away from her hometown, Anjali’s mother is her companion in Mumbai. “I wouldn’t have reached here without the encouragement of my family. They are very happy that a girl in their clan has made a name for herself at such a young age.”
And was it difficult adjusting in Mumbai? “It was difficult to adjust to the city’s fast pace. Without my mom, I would have been lost. But then, my unit is also very good—they don’t let me feel uncomfortable at all.”
But given the industry’s competitive spirit, will she be able to make it with her simplicity? “I am confident of doing that. I want to live with saadgi. Just because, everyone is speaking in English, Chinese and Japanese, I don’t want to follow suit. I speak Hindi and am happy with that. Later in life, if I feel the need to learn these languages, I might do that. Right now, it’s not needed.”
