Pakistani actor-director-producer Samina Peerzada has been a veteran in the entertainment domain who has witnessed the transition and growth of the Pakistani television and film industry over the years. Her character Rafia Murtaza in the ongoing show on Zindagi channel, Zindagi Gulzar Hai (ZGH), is of a strong, supportive mother who single handedly raises her three daughters after separation from her husband. In complete contrast with her role in ZGH, she will next be seen playing the character of Ana, the overbearing caretaker of the palace of Noorpur who displays shades of grey in the forthcoming show Noorpur Ki Rani

How do you feel about the fact that your show ‘Noorpur ki Rani’ will now be seen on Zindagi?
I am glad that Pakistani artists now have a platform to showcase their talent in India, thanks to ZEEL’s Zindagi. To be seen on Indian television and to be able to entertain Indian audience is like a dream come true for me. This is definitely one of the best moments of my life.

Tell us something about your show ‘Noorpur ki Rani’.
Most Pakistani shows are based on novels and have a well-defined theme and time line. ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ for example is a show about how life is like a patch of garden. Just how there are different kinds of flowers in a garden, there are different kinds of people in our lives. ‘Noorpur ki Rani’ is about the journey of this young, bubbly girl. We are sure to please the Indian audience with the story.

What is the reaction of the audience back home in Pakistan about the launch of the Zindagi?
Over the years we have grown up watching Indian shows and movies in Pakistan. We would wait for Indian content to be aired in Pakistan because there is a strong fan-base for Indian artists here. Just like how we see Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen in Pakistan, we always dreamt and hoped the work of Pakistani artists also gets showcased in India. With Zindagi featuring Pakistani shows, it is like a dream come true for us and we are glad that Indian audience is now know how life is across the border and that it is not very different from theirs.

What is the message that you want to convey to the Indian audience?
Pakistani film industry is full of young and talented artists. Just like how we are excited about movies starring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and the likes, we hope that there’ll be a day when the Indian audience will recognize Pakistani artists too. Just like how art is not confined to any boundaries, I hope there’ll be a day when Indians and Pakistanis can visit one another with visa on arrival and be back to being brothers like how it is supposed to be. I am very thankful to Zindagi for this initiative. Even though it’s a small step, it’s definitely a firm one.

How do you like Indian TV shows and movies?
I am a huge fan of Indian content. I have loved movies like Parineeta, Band Baaja Baaraat and Barfi!. On television, I am hooked to Comedy Nights with Kapil Sharma. He is hilarious and the best stress buster for me. Gladly we don’t have to wait for too long for Indian content to be screened or aired in Pakistan and I am hoping that the same will continue to keep happening with Pakistani content in India.

What has been the most memorable moment of your acting career so far?
In the year 1979 when I had traveled to India I went to Kolkata. I got an opportunity to meet the veteran Satyajit Ray. His exact words to me were, “I see an actor in you”. I was not sure about taking up acting back then because my family was quite conservative but a few years later I actually got the courage and support to pursue it and was thankfully successful. He has been such an inspiration for me throughout my journey. In the year 1992 I visited India again, and this time I spoke at his mourning ceremony. Satyajit Ray and his work have had a deep impact in shaping my acting career.
