TRENDING NOW

At the Sunburn Arena in Mumbai today, English DJ, music producer and songwriter Jonas Blue will belt out “some special edits and new collaborations.” Admitting to be excited for his performance, the Brit Award nominee says that after travelling the world, India was one of the few countries on his list where he hadn’t played. The multi-platinum-selling artiste, who is known blend dance and pop music, debuted with his version of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car featuring vocals by Dakota in 2015. At the gig, one can expect an unreleased version of the track and more.

WHY FAST CAR

With the tropical house reimagination of the 1988 single, Jonas was on the charts right after Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk and higher than Tracy’s original track. Needless to say, he was amazed with the response. “I had a good feeling about the record but didn’t expect it to reach the level it got to globally — such a special way debut!” he states. The Rise (featuring Jack & Jack) hitmaker chose the song because it was his mother’s favourite, growing up. “I always knew I wanted to remake it, just had to be the right moment to do it,” he points out.

FEELING THE BLUE

Jonas recently dropped his first studio album, Blue. While Rise, Polaroids (featuring Liam Payne and Lennon Stella) and Perfect Strangers are already big, the seven new tracks have garnered a similar reception. “People seem to like different tracks,” he reasons, “It’s different with an album as you’re not focussed on one single specific track but I’m happy with how it all went down.”

STAYING RELEVANT

These are the days of social media sensations and bedroom DJs, when most fade away sooner than later. So, how does Jonas stay relevant? “I always strive to make my music unique,” he informs us. Right enough, his second single Perfect Strangers (featuring JP Cooper) was certified platinum in the UK, while By Your Side (with Raye), Mama (vocals by William Singe) and others have been big hits. “I think when Perfect Strangers landed and was so well received, it was a magic moment,” he says, when asked about the most gratifying highlight in his career so far.
