Huma Qureshi’s mom Amina wins an award

Huma Qureshi’s mother Amina won the ninth Woman’s Excellence Awards organised by the Ministry of Doner in association with Indo European Chambers of small and medium industries. She was conferred with the award for her work in Gurez, her native village in Kashmir. Amina has got a masjid built on her ancestral land and is in the process of building a school for young kids. An ecstatic Huma says, “We are so proud of her. My mother is involved in social work and she has done a lot of work for Gurez. She wanted to have a place where people can come and pray, so on her ancestral land she had a masjid built. She is pious and believes that people’s prayers will help my grandfather in his after life. Now, the school will not only provide education, but also teach life skills like carpentry to students there. Earlier, when there were floods in Srinagar and Uttarakhand she was in the forefront to collect mattresses, gum boots, sweaters, blankets, etc to send it to the affected victims.”

Asked how they will be celebrating the award, Huma says her Delhi-based family will be getting together for a dinner. “My brother (Saqib Saleem) is there now, but I won’t be able to go because I am wrapping up my film assignments. After that, I will also join them,” she signs off.
