Tiwari was arrested in May, 2014 for allegedly raping a woman, but had been granted bail after a month.

Earlier, he had moved a discharge application in the sessions court, stating that his relationship with the complainant was consensual, and her claim to have never drunk liquor could not be true because she worked in the advertising industry.

The complainant, allegedly Tiwari's one-time girlfriend, alleged that he raped her repeatedly between October 2012 and December 2013 after promising to marry her but did not keep the promise.

Tiwari's brother Ankur was also arrested for allegedly threatening the woman.
